16.7.2007: we congratulate Kerstin Kracht on winning the first Clara von Simson price. The price was given to our colleague from the Institute of Mechanics for her outstanding diploma thesis. It was entitled: “Untersuchung des Schwingungsverhaltens des Dobson Space Telescope”: modal analysis for the Dobson Space Telescope.
1.6.2007: We are proud to announce that our deployment mechanism for the Dobson
Space Telescope was patented today.
3.5.2007: We presented the Dobson Space Telescope at the SME workshop of DLR
26.4.2007: We had very successful days at our local small satellites conference.
Dobson Space Telescope was present at the IAA small satellites symposium
in Berlin for the third time. Using our membership in RiBB, the network
of the small satellites industry in Germanys capital region our team was
able to display our project with a dedicated booth at RiBB showroom at
the conference.
8.2.2007: We have visited the ESA Sinequanet workshop in Darmstadt, Germany.
Sinequanet is a initiative to foster small satellite business in the

19.1.2007: Starting from today our website has a new layout. The Dobson Team thanks Thomas Kroehs and Calm’n’Easy for implementation of the new design.
10.1.2007: We congratulate the LAPAN TUBSAT team of TU Berlin and LAPAN for the
successful launch of LAPAN TUBSAT Microsatellite. LAPAN TUBSAT was
developed and built by a team of Germany and Indonesian Engineers under
the head of Prof. Udo Renner. The 56kg coke crate sized satellite is the
7th of the TUBSAT series. Its main camera is able to aquire 6m
resolution live video images. Main purpose of the project is technology
tranfer.
We are also very proud that we are able to contribute to the success of
the satellite. Our team is involved in the process of trouble
shooting for the main instrument of the satellite. We also supplied
software and algorithms for image post processing.
1.10.2006: The Dobson Space Telescope Team will be present on the IAF Congress in Valencia and the 1st Hellenic European Student Space Science and Technology Symposium in Patras.

1.9.2006: The Dobson Space Telescope is very proud to announce that we have recieved Exist-Seed funding. Exist-Seed is a programme by the Germany Federal Ministry of Economics and Technologie (BMWi) supported by the European Social Fonds (ESF) to foster high tech start-ups from universities.
12.8.2006: Today we recieved the results of the modal analysis of our telescope structure: This work was done in cooperation with the Institute of Mechanics at the TU-Berlin. We are very pleased with the results. The structure shows very robust behaviour and is very unsensitive to vibrations induced by the satellite. The results of this work will be published in a paper on the IAF congress in Valencia.

31.3.2006: We visited the Deutsche Gründer und Unternehmertage (DeGut) in Berlin, Germany. The DeGut is a fair for Start-ups and Entrepeneurs where they can find support by various institutions. The visit was very helpful in getting information about the diffent national and international technology and start-up support programs.
30.3.2006: We are very proud to announce that one of our team members won an ESA sponsorship for the participation in this years Space Technology Conference (STEC06) which will be held in Braunschweig, Germany from 9.5-11.5. We will present our project as a successfull example of how former student initiatives can transform into official university research projects and real business later on.
22.3.2006: Today was the first presentation of the Coaching Results. The audience of TCC-Berlin and IBB representatives was delighted by the results and approved the funding for further Coaching.

25.2.2006: Today we got the results from BPW first stage: we achieve the 83th place of 456 participating teams. DST is among the top 20%. Due to our late entrace to this competition we are satisfied with this result.

11.12.2005: Two Members of the Dobson Space Telescope project were invited by the SSETI Assosiation to share management experience with the SSETI Team.
30.11.2005: A cooperation between the Dobson Space Telescope project and the Institute of Mechanics was started to analyse the mechanical vibrations behaviour of our deployable structure. The analysis will be done both mathematical (analytical + numerical) and experimental (modal analysis with a shaker)

24.7.2005: We are back from our parabolic flight. We had some wonderful days in Bordeaux. The experiment was successful and deployed smothly under zero-g condition. We would like to thank the ESA Eduction Office for making this possible.
20.5.2005: We transfered our final report for the GSP study to ESA. We would like to thank the ESA GSP Programme for making our study possible. It greatly helped us in bringing our project forward. Special thanks also to Andrés Galvez head of the Advanced Concepts Team (ACT) at ESA. He helped us through all the prodecures.
15.5.2005: Frederic Gai the project manager for the parabolic flight campaign at Novespace visited our experiment in Berlin. From this meeting we got many new ideas how to improve our experiment.
1.5.2005: Our Collimation Testbed is now ready for testing. Due to the parabolic flight campaign test will start in August 2005
9.4.2005: We participated in the STEC05 conference in Aalborg.
5.4.2005: Our Team participated in the 5th IAA Symposium on Small Satellites for Earth Observation.
We are very proud to announce that we together with the Japanese Prism team have won the shared first price of the student competition of the 5th IAA Symposium on small satellites for earth observation.
1.4.2005: Within the ESA Parabolic Flight Campaign we visited ESTEC for a workshop, which helped us to prepare our Experiment.
8.3.2005: We have been accepted for the 8th ESA Student Parabolic Flight Campaign. In July of this year we will test our deployment mechanism under Zero-G.
10.2.2005: We are proud to announce that we have won a new Sponsor. Cad Layout Service Hilz supported our Collimation Testbed with an artificial Star. With this device we will be able to test our collimation actuators.

11.10.2004: We back from the 55th IAC in Vancouver. Participating in this huge conference was marvelous and very exciting. We made promissing new contacts. We are also very proud to announce that our Team has won the student poster price for “the most innovative technical design” of ESA, CSA, JAXA and NASA!
22.9.2004: We are proud to announce that we have won the Konrad Hornschuch AG as sponsor for our Project. They will support the development of our Testbed.
21.9.2004: We presented the work of the Dobson Space Telescope at the DGLR Nachwuchstagung which took place on the ocasion of the German Aerospace Congress 2004 in Dresden. It was very interesting to discuss the future prospects of the booming university microsat programmes in Germany. DGLR is the German Foundation for all people who are professional or private interested in aerospace.
1.9.2004: We are proud to announce that we have won the Friends of the TU-Berlin foundation as a sponsor for our project. The Friends of the TU-Berlin will support the development of our Testbed.
26.4.2004: On next monday we will present the Dobson Space Telescope at the AQUARIUS lecture at the TU-Berlin. The speech will be entitled: Well I need 20.000€ or how to manage a student project by yourselves. The Dobson Space Telescope Project will be present at this years IAC in Vancouver. We are going to hold a poster presentation in the “small satellites operations and missions” and a oral presentation in the “enabling new technologys” session. We would also like to thank both the ESA and the German DGLR for sponsoring the conference vistit for two of our team members.
15.5.2004: We are proud to announce that we have won the national competition of the 34th IAF student competition. It was a tight race among some of Germany’s most exiting Student projects. We thank the DGLR for their faith in us. We will do our best to be honorable representatives of Germany.
13.5.2004: Today our Team visited the ILA air-show in Berlin. We have seen amazing things new airplanes as well as satellites. We also used our visit to talk with our industry partners.
8.5.2004: We would like to thank Mr. Zelasek and Mr. Klueven for presenting the Dobson Space Telescope project at the ATT. The ATT is the largest German trade show for amateur astronomy products. Update: A report about the ATT is available on Astronomie.de the German Astronomy source
6.5.2004: An external team supervised by Prof. Briess will try to build a foldable space optic for a Cube-Sat. Today was our first meeting with them. We discussed the general problems and advantages of this technology. Today we met with Mr. Trittelvitz. He is a famous Germany Amateur Telescope Maker and he shared with us his knowledge about collimation of telescopes.
26.4.2004: Today our second cooperation project with Prof. Timpe startet. The aim of this project will be the definition of a multi user communication system for our future university satellites. The study will be done by 9 external students as part of their diploma examination.
17.4.2004: We are back from the STEC. We had a great time meeting students interested in space technology from all over Europe.

2.4.2004: We are back from ICSO 2004 in Toulouse. We presented our work at this space optic conference with a poster.
4.3.2004: Today we opened our new laboratory. We would like to specially thank Prof. Briess for providing us with that room. Now we start the assembly of our optical testbeds.
1.3.2004: Mr. Zelasek of Tele-Optic-Tanneberg invited the Dobson Space Telescope to present the work of the project. Tele-Optic-Tanneberg is a SME that produces professional and semiprofessional optics for astronomy. We are very proud to announce that we have won Tele-Optic-Tanneberg as a sponsor for the Dobson Space Telescope Project. Tele-Optic-Tanneberg will provide us with all mirrors needed for the laboratory model.
17.2.2004: Today was the final presentation of our cooperation project with Prof. Timpe from the MMS Institute of the TU-Berlin. The students did a survey about “New users for low-cost high resolution satellite based remote sensing”. We were very delighted by the results of this work and we already planning future cooperration with Prof Timpe and the MMS Institute.
8.1.2004: We proudly announce that our cooperation project with Prof. Timpe was taken as an example for good team work and system engineering during meeting of Korean and German Professors at the TU-Berlin. Two students of our team discussed their experiences with autonomous work during the project. The Dobson Space Telescope will be at the STEC (Space and Technology Education Conference – 14.04.2004-16.04.2004 Lausanne) and the ICSO 2004 (International Conference on Space Optics – 29.03.2004-02.04.2004 Toulouse) conference.
19.11.2003: We had a meeting with the engineers of Astro- and Feinwerktechnik GmbH. We discussed possible cooperation during design and construction of the prototype
25.10.2003: We were invited to presesent the Dobson Space Telescope Project in the Feuerstein Observatory. This event will be coordinated by Dr. Fleischmann Managing Director of our Sponsor OES. Start is today at 8.00pm at the Landvolksschule Feuerstein.
23.10.2003: Today was the starting lecture of Prof. Briess at the TU-Berlin. He spoke about the BIRD-Mission and his plans for developing space science at TU-Berlin. Dr. Sandau head of the IR sensor Systems of the DLR Adlershof and Mr. A.Lindenthal Director of EADS earth observation also held lectures about microsats as a sophisticated plattform for earth observation and about EADS Earth observation programmes. Both Prof Brieß and Dr. Sandau called the Dobson Space Telescope an inovative project.
21.10.2003: Today our cooperation project with Prof. Timpe was started. 10 Students of the lecture System technology will evaluate “new users and application for high resolution remote sensing”.
4.10.2003: We are back from the 54th IAC. We had wonderful days in Bremen; meeting interesting people making promising new contacts . In the papers section you may download our posters. A report about our mock-up will soon be available. And yes it really can produce pictures! It is indeed the worlds first optical telescope with deployable structures.
1.9.2003: Prof. Dr. Briess is the new professor for space technology at the Technical University of Berlin.
The Dobson Space Telescope welcomes him. update: Prof. Dr. Briess is now our official coordinator at the TU-Berlin.
25.7.2003: The Dobson Space Telescope Project was invited to take part in the student outreach programm of this years IAC (international astronautical congress) in Bremen.
17.7.2003: We were invited by Astro- und Feinwerktechnik to present our project. We were able to win them as a science advisors for Dobson Space Telescope.
3.7.2003: We discussed our project with Prof. Timpe dean of the MMS Intitute of the technical university of Berlin. He as agreed to be our science advisor in questions of system technology.
23.5.2003: We will present our project at the ITV 2003 (International Telescope Meeting Vogelsberg) it is the largest Amateur Astronomers meeting in Europe. Update: Mr. Klueven of Klueven Carbon Technology a company that produces very interesting one truss design dobson has agreed to be our science advisor in questions of carbon technology. We met Mr. Klueven first at this years ITV.

16.5.2003: Due to several requests we decided to translate our German study into English. You may send your requests which chapters to translate first. We hope to finish the translation within 4 weeks. Update: An unforeseen event has caused a delay in our translation work. Due to our high work load we won’t be able to finish the translation in the nearby future. This problem will remain until we are able to acquire an external source for this work. Nevertheless we will answer specific questions on request.
